Program Planning:

There are many diverse learners in our classrooms today. Program planning for these learners is a sequential process, involving several levels of managing a student’s educational program.

Most learning needs can be met through differentiated instruction. Teachers plan the learning environment, instructional strategies, and assigned learning activities in response to the needs of the students in their classroom.

Despite differentiated instruction, particular students have Learning needs that require more extensive changes to the Program. These changes are referred to as adaptations. Adaptations are planned and implemented by the teacher with an individual student in mind. In most cases, adaptations are sufficient for the student to meet the outcomes of their grade level.

For a very small number of individuals, adaptations are not sufficient to allow the student to successfully meet the outcomes. A program planning team is chosen to meet and develop an Individual Program Plan (IPP). The IPP defines alternate or additional curriculum outcomes that are suited to the unique learning needs of the student. The team includes parents, teachers, and school administrators. Additional personnel may be included, depending on the needs of the student.
