AVID Screening of "Prom Night in Mississippi", February 8 in Windsor

   

On Wednesday, February 8, the  Annapolis Valley Regional School Board’s AVID Series, in conjunction with the Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre, will host a free screening of the powerful and profound documentary film "Prom Night in Mississippi," followed by a discussion with the film’s director, Paul Saltzman.  The film follows efforts, led by actor Morgan Freeman, to bring the first non-segregated prom to the high school students of Charleston, Mississippi.

Options and Opportunities Program Showcase

   
The AVRSB O2 team is hosting the second annual Annapolis Valley Regional School Board Options and Opportunities Program Showcase on Thursday, February 2 at Centre Court in the County Fair Mall, New Minas from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. You're invited to come view the school exhibits and participate in interactive student demonstrations.
 
Options and Opportunities (O2) is an exciting high school program that offers students more hands-on learning experiences with a career focus.The showcase is a great way to learn what the O2 program is all about from students themselves, and to talk with students about the positive impact the program has had in their lives.

Family Literacy Day, January 27

   

Family Literacy Day was celebrated on January 27. Many AVRSB schools held events from January 23 to 27 to celebrate the importance--and joy--of reading and family literacy.

Successful Schools for Successful Students--New Timeline Proposed

   

A new timeline for the Successful Schools for Successful Students report and recommendations will be put forward for approval at the next regular Board meeting, February 1, 2012.

 

If this new timeline is approved by the Board, the report and recommendations will be presented at the March 19, 2012 Operations Committee meeting. The Operations Committee would then forward recommendations to the full Board for consideration at the April 4, 2012 regular Board meeting.

 

A revised timeline is needed to allow more thorough consideration of all public input received as part of this long-term planning process.

AVRSB Primary Registration will take place from January to May 2012.  Each school organizes its own Primary Registration and Orientation dates. Parents/guardians are welcome to contact their child's school any time for more information on Primary Registration.

School Reviews Move to Next Step

   

At the September 7, 2011 Regular Board meeting, members of the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board accepted a recommendation from the Board's Operations Committee to move to the next step in formal school review processes for Annapolis Royal Regional Academy and Newport Station District School. This follows receipt of School Closure Impact Assessments for these schools.
