Frequently Asked Questions
1. Regular Board Meeting Schedule
Answer #1
The full Board meets on the first Wednesday of every month during the school year at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room on the second floor of AVRSB’s regional office (121 Orchard Street, Berwick). In July and August, meetings are held only if requred. Special meetings or changes to the meeting schedule or location are announced at www.avrsb.ca. A public forum takes place at the end of each regular Board meeting.
See the "Meetings" link on the left for Regular Board meeting agendas, minutes and highlights. Agendas are posted on the Friday before a scheduled Board meeting and minutes are posted when completed, as soon as possible after the meeting.
2. Making a Presentation to the Board
Answer #2
There are many ways you can communicate with the Board to express your views, or the views of a group. Every regular Board meeting ends with a public forum where any individual is welcome to speak. You or your group can also send written correspondence for discussion during a Board or Committee meeting.
A person or group can also arrange to appear before the Board or a Committee of the Board to express opinions or concerns, or to make proposals on any issues within the scope of the Board or Committee in question. Almost any topic can be addressed at a public board meeting, except for labour negotiations, legal matters, personnel matters and discipline issues.
Contact the Board Secretary at (902) 538-4675 or board.secretary@avrsb.ca at least seven days before the meeting at which you want to appear. Provide written notice of your intent to appear, and the reasons for your presentation. The Board or Committee Chair will determine which meeting is appropriate for your presentation, and the Board Secretary will confirm the time and date with you. The Board secretary will advise you on appointing spokespeople and time limits for your presentation.
Generally, a decision on the topic of your presentation is not made at the same meeting. You or your group will be notified later if any decision has been made related to your presentation.
For more information on making a presentation to the Board, please check the Board By-Laws link to the left.
